Course Breakfast
Cuisine American
- 10 slices bread Texas Toast
- ¾ cup milk
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 tbsp white sugar
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp avocado oil
- pinch of salt
Start out by whisking together the flour and milk in a medium bowl until the flour has (mostly) dissolved.
Add in the eggs and vanilla, sugars, cinnamon, and salt, and then whisk until well combined.
Dip your Texas toast into your egg and milk mixture just until both sides are evenly coated.
Heat your Blackstone griddle to medium-low. Add your oil, and then cook your French toast for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar (if desired) and top with maple syrup.
Helpful Tips
- Using flour in the recipes helps to thicken the batter so it sticks to the bread, making the French toast soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
- Use thick slices of bread (Texas toast, brioche, French, or Italian bread) that isn't fresh for best results (a couple days old is perfect).
- To avoid your French toast tasting “too eggy” use more milk in your batter, and also whisk your batter until everything is well combined. Use a fork to ensure that the batter runs freely through the tines of the fork.
- Make sure to only dip the bread in the batter for a few seconds so that it doesn’t get too soggy.
- To save time, I like to dip all of the bread in the egg/milk mixture and then set them on a baking sheet so they are ready to cook.
Variations
- You can butter the French toast when it's removed from the griddle and dip in cinnamon sugar mixture, then drizzle with a cream cheese glaze for cinnamon roll French toast.
- Add some strawberries, blueberries or raspberries to the top of the French toast with some powdered sugar or whipped topping.
- Make stuffed French toast by spreading cream cheese combined with your favorite jelly, or Nutella between two slices of bread before dipping into your egg mixture and cooking.
- Sprinkle some chocolate chips on the bread while cooking for chocolate chip French toast.
Storage
- Store your French toast in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 2-3 days. To reheat, just pop it in the microwave or put it in a toaster oven.
