There’s no doubt about it, the last couple of years have been tough. We have experienced things that we never imagined we would and the uncertainty of our day-to-day life has left us feeling anxious and stressed.
However, we’ve also come to realize we are stronger than we ever thought we could be. We’ve spent more time at home, appreciating all the small moments that we would usually take for granted because we would be so busy going from one activity to another.
Find Joy in the Small Moments
Personally, it’s forced me to take a good long look at what I want to focus on during the last month of this crazy, unpredictable year. Amid all the chaos, I have decided to take a few minutes every day to write down 1-2 things that have brought me joy.
Simple, small moments like laughing with a loved one or connecting with family who live far away if only for a minute. The goal is to focus on those moments instead of all the negativity and fear that is constantly surrounding us on a day to day basis.
30 Day Holiday Gratitude Challenge
Taking all these things into account, I decided to make a 30 day Holiday Gratitude Challenge. So, basically for the entire month of December at the end of the day, write down 1-2 things in your life that you are grateful for.
Here is a few gratitude prompts that you can use:
- Did someone make you smile?
- Something that gave you comfort
- An accomplishment
- Did an opportunity come up?
- A lesson learned
- Something you like about yourself
- Reasons you love your home
- People who mean the most to you
- Did you receive a compliment?
- A song, show, or story that made you happy
“Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity….it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”– Melody Beattie
I’ve created a free printable to help you find that joy in your life and all the reasons to be grateful despite how hard times are right now. The ultimate goal of this challenge is to start getting into the habit of showing appreciation for the people and things in your life.

Finding joy and gratitude in life can help relieve some of the anxiety we feel. But, let’s face it, with the holidays upon us, it can add another level of stress to these uncertain times. That’s why finding gratitude now is more important than ever.
So, hold on to those small moments and treasure every one. Whether it’s the twinkling lights, the old Christmas carols that take you back to when you were a child or the laughter from your children on Christmas morning.
How to Use This Gratitude Challenge
Every night simply jot down a few words or a sentence of something that has made you smile that day. If you are more of a visual person, you can snap a photo every day of something or someone that you are grateful for, print, and glue the picture into each box.
Alternatively, you can also grab a notebook if you prefer to do this challenge without the calendar. Especially, if you want to write down more than 1-2 short things and would prefer to write a paragraph or longer to record your thoughts and gratitude.
You can also grab a gratitude journal. This 52-week Gratitude Journal has inspirational quotes, a place to write 3 things that you are grateful for each day, and a weekly check-in.
Hopefully, you will find that this 30-Day Holiday Gratitude Challenge will encourage you to be thankful for everything you have and inspire you to live a more fulfilling and happier life.
