Ingredients for Buffalo Chicken Pizza

This easy Buffalo Chicken Pizza requires only a few simple ingredients for a tasty, family-friendly dinner idea that is perfect for busy weeknights when you are craving that tangy and spicy flavor of buffalo chicken.

You will need:

  • Pizza crust mix or pizza dough- any pizza dough will work (we have even used frozen bread dough). Typically, we use 4 packages of Great Value pizza crust mix ( it makes 2 large pizzas).
  • Cooked shredded chicken
  • Frank’s hot sauce
  • Ranch dressing- any brand of ranch dressing will work.
  • Mozzarella cheese- you can use the prepackaged cheese or shred your own.
  • Parmesan cheese- grated or shredded (whatever you prefer). I had grated on hand, so that is what I used.

How to Make Easy Buffalo Chicken Pizza

(Yields 2 Large Pizzas)

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 450°, then grease two large pizza pans.
  2. Prepare your dough; if you are using the pizza crust mix, otherwise divide your pizza dough and spread it on your pizza pans.
  3. Add your cooked, shredded chicken to a medium bowl and combine with hot sauce and ranch dressing. Mix, making sure all the chicken is coated in the sauce. Set aside.
  4. In a smaller bowl, make your buffalo sauce by combining hot sauce and ranch dressing, then spread evenly over both pizza crusts. (It will be a thin layer, as you don’t want the pizza to be soggy, and it gives it a little extra spice.)
  5. Spread the sauced, shredded chicken that was set aside on the pizzas.
  6. Top with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake for 12-13 minutes until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown. (Since ovens can vary, start checking at 10 minutes.)

Note: I cook both pizzas at the same time, one on the middle rack and one on the bottom. Then, at 10 minutes, I will switch them so that the pizza that was on the middle rack has a chance to brown more on the bottom.

Variations

  • Make homemade pizza dough. Although our go-to for making homemade pizza is a pizza crust mix because it’s so fast, inexpensive, and easy. You can also use pre-made pizza dough or make homemade dough. This pizza dough recipe from Sugar Spun Run is not only simple to make but delicious.
  • Add more ingredients. As I mentioned, we like to keep things simple, but you can add chopped onions, peppers, or tomatoes.
  • Use blue cheese or cheddar cheese. You can also switch out the ranch dressing for blue cheese dressing. And, add in some cheddar cheese with your mozzarella to make your buffalo chicken pizza even cheesier.
  • Make it more (or less spicy). If your family can handle the heat and you want your sauce to be spicier, you can add more hot sauce. You can also drizzle your pizza with more ranch dressing when it comes out of the oven to lessen the spice, or just cut down on the hot sauce.  (I usually try the sauce before putting it on the pizza to make sure it’s not too spicy.

  • You can customize this pizza by adding more ingredients like onions, tomato, or peppers. You can also replace a cup of mozzarella with a cup of cheddar cheese.
  • If you want your pizza to have more (or less spice), you can add more (or less) hot sauce. I will usually try it before spreading it on the pizza crusts just to make sure it's not too spicy for my family.
  • You can use rotisserie chicken in place of the cooked, shredded chicken if you don't have any on hand.
  • Keep in mind ovens vary, so you may have to adjust the baking time. I usually bake both pizzas at the same time (one on the middle rack and one on the bottom). After 10 minutes, I switch the pizzas so they both get golden brown on the bottom.
  • The pizzas will last 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
