Over the years, my air fryer has become one of my most favorite small kitchen appliances. I love the minimal prep and easy clean-up that this versatile device offers. I’ve had so much fun experimenting with cooking main dishes, side dishes, appetizers, breakfast, and even holiday dishes.

But, what I’ve been most excited to cook in the air fryer has been the desserts. Recently, I decided to cook our favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe in the air fryer and they turned out wonderfully. They were much better than I expected them to be, and I’m very picky about my chocolate chip cookies (I like them to be soft and thick but with a chewy center).
What I loved about these air fryer chocolate chip cookies is that they did not only have a chewy center but they were crispy around the outside edge.

Why should you try cooking cookies in the air fryer?
Besides the fact they come out all nice and chewy on the inside and crispy on the outer edges, there are a few more reasons making this classic dessert is ideal to cook in the air fryer.
- They are easy to prepare and quick to cook.
- You can cook small batches which are perfect if you are craving a sweet treat without all the work.
- There aren’t so many cookies to store so you don’t have to worry about them going stale.
- By using your air fryer to cook your chocolate chip cookies, you are not heating up your home as an oven would. This allows you to enjoy delicious cookies any time of the year, even on the hottest days of summer.
- They are the perfect after-school snack for kids.
What you need for these air fryer cookies
Besides, an air fryer, aluminum foil or parchment paper (punch holes or cut slits) and a cookie scoop, these are the ingredients that you will need to make these easy air fryer chocolate chip cookies.
- Softened butter- Room temperature works best but you can also soften it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds. Just make sure to watch it so it doesn’t melt.
- Granulated and brown sugar
- Vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- All-purpose flour– When adding flour to your cookie mixture, use a spoon to add the flour to your measuring cup so you are not adding too much flour causing your cookies to be dry.
- Salt
- Baking soda
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips– or any variety of chocolate chips such as milk or white chocolate chips.
How to make these chocolate chip cookies in the air fryer
- Start by placing parchment paper or aluminum foil in the air fryer (if desired).
- In a small bowl mix together your flour, baking soda, and, salt until completely combined.
- In a larger bowl, combine your softened butter, with your granulated sugar and brown sugar. Beat until creamy, then add in your vanilla and eggs.
- Slowly add your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients until fully combined and then mix in your chocolate chips.
- Scoop 5-6 cookie dough balls into your air fryer (this depends on how big your air fryer is, you may be able to fit more). Just make sure you are leaving about an inch or so in between each one.
- Cook at 320° for 10 minutes and then let sit for about 3 minutes before removing them from your air fryer.
Keep in mind that cooking times can vary based on the model and its size. You may find that your cookies may not need as much time or may need a few more minutes to get that golden brown color.
Based on this chocolate chip cookie recipe, 10 minutes at 320 degrees was perfect for my air fryer. Always test a few cookies in your air fryer first.
Commonly asked questions for air frying cookies
Can you use aluminum foil or parchment paper in your air fryer for cookies?
It’s perfectly safe to use aluminum foil or parchment paper when cooking cookies in your air fryer. As long as you are leaving a space around the edge of your basket so that the hot air can get through. Alternatively, you can also cut slits in your parchment paper or purchase some specially made for the air fryer. These have great reviews and are easy to use.
Note: Never preheat the air fryer with parchment paper on your basket as the hot air could blow it up onto the heating element causing a fire.
These cookies do not require your air fryer to be preheated.
Do you need to flatten cookies before you air fry them?
I have seen a few recipes that suggest flattening your cookies before air frying them. This recipe doesn’t require flattening your cookies as I’ve never had a problem with the cookies not spreading like normal in the air fryer.
How do you store these air fryer chocolate chip cookies?
Once your cookies are completely cooled, they can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for no more than 5 days.
If you would prefer to freeze the cookie dough so you can make smaller batches whenever you want. Simply scoop the cookie dough onto a baking sheet and put the dough into the freezer until frozen. Then, take them off the cookie sheet and put them in a Ziplock freezer bag.
When you are ready to bake, you can let them come to room temperature or just cook them frozen and add a couple of minutes to the cooking time.
Frozen cookie dough usually lasts for up to 3 months in the freezer.
Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies
Equipment
- Air Fryer
Ingredients
- ½ cup butter softened
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the flour, salt and baking soda.
- Mix together the butter and sugars in a large bowl until creamy.
- Add the vanilla, and egg and mix well.
- Add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients until combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Using a cookie scoop, drop the cookie dough in air fryer basket leaving about an inch between each cookie. (should be able to fit 5-6 cookies)
- Set air fryer to 320° and cook for 10 minutes.
- Cookies will be golden brown, let set in air fryer for 3 minutes.
