Life is busy. Between work, appointments, and kids’ activities, the days are full. The last thing we want to think about after such a hectic day is household chores.

Finding the time to clean your home every day can be so overwhelming especially when there are a hundred other things pulling for your attention.

The trick is to focus your energy on simple tasks that you can get done quickly. You may not have a day or even an hour to clean your home all at one time but what you can probably find is a quick 5 minutes here and there throughout your day.

These quick cleaning tasks that take 5 minutes or less are the perfect way to get your home clean when you are lacking the time or motivation.

Living room

The living room is probably one of the easiest rooms to clean- if the clutter is kept under control(bins or baskets can help contain toy clutter) A vacuum and a quick tidy are usually all that is needed to make the living room feel cleaner.

  • Dust end stands/ coffee table
  • Vacuum floor
  • Wipe remote controls
  • Fold blankets
  • Tidy and fluff pillows

Bedrooms

Making your bed is one of those cleaning tasks that can have such a big impact on your day. Since it’s usually one of the first things you do in the morning, it makes you feel accomplished and can set you up for a more productive day.

  • Make the bed*
  • Clean nightstand
  • Clean a drawer

Laundry room

Laundry is one of those things that can get out of control quickly if it’s not kept up with. If you don’t have a specific day that you do your laundry try to make it a habit to throw a load in either every morning or night to stay on top of it.

  • Put in a load of laundry
  • Fold a load of laundry
  • Put away a load of laundry

Office

If you have an office in your home or even an area in your kitchen where you keep your mail, try to find 5 minutes throughout your week to go through your mail and get rid of anything you don’t want and file the important papers.

  • Tidy desk
  • Go through paper mail
  • Wipe the computer screen, mouse, and keyboard

All rooms

These tasks should be completed in all the rooms. It doesn’t take long to go from room to room to wipe down light switches or clear cobwebs. However, since windows and window blinds take longer, try and focus on one window at a time when you have 5 minutes to spare.

  • Pick up clutter*
  • Clean door handles
  • Wipe down light switches
  • Dust window blinds
  • Clear cobwebs
  • Dust ceiling fans
  • Clean a window
  • Dust surfaces
  • Clean light fixtures

  • Remove pet hair from couch/chairs with a lint brush
