The holidays are a magical time. There is nothing better than a warm blanket, a cup of hot cocoa with tree lights twinkling in the background while a Hallmark Christmas movie is playing on the television.

It all seems wonderful and cozy until you glance up to see a kitchen sink full of dishes and clutter on the floors and counters. Then, it doesn’t seem so cozy anymore.

So, in order to enjoy all the fun holiday traditions but also be able to tackle the turmoil (because let’s face it, the holidays are known for bringing more stress and more mess.)

We need to find a way to conquer the clutter and clean up the house in a more efficient way so we can spend our time enjoying the tree, the lights, the cocoa, and the hallmark movies.

How Do You Clean During the Holiday Season?

Well, we need to focus on what we can achieve and not stress about what we can’t. It’s a busy time of year so finding a way to balance the fun stuff and the tasks that need to get done is so important for our sanity.

The way to achieve this is by speed-cleaning your home for the holidays.

Easy Tips to Speed Clean for the Holidays

Before you start to clean make sure you have a cleaning caddy. It saves time so you are not running back and forth to get your cleaning supplies.

If you have a cleaning routine in place you probably already have a caddy filled with all your go-to cleaning supplies but if not then you can grab one at any dollar store and fill it up with your favorite cleaning essentials.

Here are some supplies I recommend:

Quick Pick-Up

Before you start cleaning, grab a basket to pick up anything out of place. It’s much quicker to move from room to room gathering any clutter now. Then, simply put things back when you have 5 or 10 minutes later on. (TIP -this would be a great chore for the kids especially if you make it into a game for them and see how quickly they can put stuff away.)

The next step is to spray and wipe all counters in the kitchen. Then, quickly move on to the bathroom wipe down the counters, clean the mirrors, and use a toilet brush to scrub the toilet. Don’t forget to put out a clean hand towel and change the bathroom garbage.

Dishes

After cleaning, I head into the kitchen to rinse the dishes and fill the dishwasher. No dishwasher? No problem. Just remember to fill your sink with hot soapy water before you start cleaning and put your dishes in to soak. By the time you have made it back, the water should be cooled and the dishes will wash more quickly and easily.  Don’t forget to rinse out your sink.

Dust

It’s time to grab your microfiber or dusting cloth and quickly dust all surfaces. I usually start at the top and move down. Remember you are trying to be quick. Now, isn’t the time to pull everything off your shelf. You can do that when you deep clean after the holidays are done.

This speed cleaning routine will help you spend less time cleaning and more time with the family enjoying the holiday season.

The only thing left to do before you are back snuggling with your loved ones watching Christmas movies is to light that pine or spice-scented candle and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
