I saw my first robin the other day- a positive sign that spring is finally on its way. And, with spring just around the corner it means that it’s also time to give my house a refresh. Earlier in the year, I decided I was going to take spring cleaning at a slower pace so I printed out my spring cleaning checklist and made a plan to work on deep cleaning tasks throughout March and April.
However, as it often does, life has gotten in the way. Between sickness, home repairs, and work, very little has been accomplished this month, and it doesn’t look like I will be able to get to my spring cleaning until April. Since I always set a goal to get it done before Easter, that means the slower approach I was hoping for is not going to happen after all.
So, to find the motivation to complete all my seasonal deep cleaning tasks, I’ve decided to create a 7-day spring cleaning checklist to refresh my home for spring, and I thought I would share it with you just in case you need a little encouragement to complete your cleaning tasks this spring.

Some Helpful Spring Cleaning Tips Before We Begin
Before we start, there are a few cleaning tasks to complete so you can be more successful with your spring cleaning:
Make a Plan
So, you are ready to spring clean your home, but you don’t know where to begin. Honestly, it’s as easy as sitting down and making a plan. Look at your calendar and pick a week that will work for you. Find a time when there are no appointments or other commitments that week.
Since this spring cleaning guide will focus on one room at a time, decide in what order you would like to clean your home. We have a two-story home, so I start on the first floor with the kitchen, and then I will clean the living room and bathroom before moving on to the second floor to tackle the bedrooms.
Having a clear idea of what areas you want to focus on and when will help keep you motivated so you can be more successful.
Clear the Clutter
One of the most important things you can do before you decide to jump into your spring cleaning is to clear the clutter in your home because it will make the cleaning process so much easier. This doesn’t have to be a complete decluttering, especially since we only have one week to complete everything.
If you have too much clutter in your home, you may want to start my 30-day home decluttering challenge. It will not only help motivate you to clear the clutter in your home but stop any overwhelm from getting started.
Simply go room to room and pick up anything that’s been left on the floor or counters. When my boys were small we would make this into a game. I would set a timer, give them a basket, and see how many of their toys they could pick up and put away in a certain amount of time.
While they were working on that, I would continue through the rest of the house, clearing off countertops and picking up anything else that had been left behind or was out of place.
Keep in mind that while this works for me, the one thing I have realized over the years is how differently people like to clean their homes. What works for me might not work for you. You may prefer to focus on the clutter in each room before you start spring cleaning that particular room.
When it comes to clearing the clutter before spring cleaning, I have done it both ways successfully. The goal is to just try and be more efficient with your cleaning, and trust me, stopping to move something out of the way every five minutes to deep clean around it can be very frustrating.

Gather Supplies
While I know some people may enjoy cleaning, I am not one of those people. But what I do enjoy is a clean home, and one of the things that seems to motivate me the most to start cleaning is to find some favorite cleaning products and assemble them in a caddy to make things easier when I begin spring cleaning.
A few supplies that I like to include in my cleaning caddy are:
- Multi-purpose cleaner
- Microfiber cloth
- Disinfecting Wipes
- Toliet Cleaner
- Glass Cleaner (or Vinegar)
- Furniture Polish
- Duster
- Magic Eraser

How to Spring Clean Your Home in One Week
The best approach to cleaning your entire home in one week is to focus on one room at a time, work clockwise around the room, and work from top to bottom. By using these 3 strategies, you will be able to get your home cleaned more efficiently in the shortest amount of time.
Focus on one room at a time
So, as I mentioned earlier, when making a plan, I have found the best way (and easiest) to get your spring cleaning done fast is to focus on one room at a time. All this means is designating a specific day of the week for each room in your home. If you have more than 7 rooms, you may have to double up on some days.
The benefit of focusing on one room at a time is that you will feel a sense of accomplishment when the room is completed. I know that for me, being able to walk out of a room knowing that it’s done encourages me to keep going.
Work clockwise
Once you’ve decided which rooms to clean on what days, you’ve gathered your supplies and picked up the clutter. Start cleaning by choosing a wall in your room to begin, then as you complete that wall, move to the next wall clockwise; that way, you are not zig-zagging all over the room wasting time.
Clean From Top to Bottom
When it comes to daily cleaning or deep cleaning your home, the goal should always be to work smarter, not harder. When you begin your spring cleaning, you want to always start cleaning from top to bottom so all the dust and debris will fall to the floor. No one wants to have to go back and clean what they have already done.
7-Day Spring Cleaning Guide
When using this 7-day spring cleaning guide, you will concentrate on deep cleaning moldings, baseboards, walls, doors, and windows. As well as wiping out cabinets and drawers. Remember, we are moving around the room and going from top to bottom.
So, for example, if you are starting in the kitchen and you’ve picked the first wall where your cabinets begin, grab a bucket of hot water with a multi-purpose cleaner and microfiber cloth. Start by dusting your ceiling moldings and the tops of your cabinets.
(Note: so you don’t have to constantly get up and down from a step ladder to reach, I like to use the Swiffer extender duster, but you can also grab your broom and place a microfiber cloth over the bristles holding it in place with a rubber band to get those hard to reach spots.)
Then, wet a cloth and start wiping the front of all your drawers and cabinets on that wall (top and bottom). Wipe down your tile/backsplash and counters, making sure to pick up any small appliances to clean and wipe under.
Once you’ve cleaned the outside, it’s time to open the doors to remove the items inside, wipe the shelves, and put the items back, and do the same with the drawers. Then, just continue around the room clockwise, doing the same thing until the entire room has been done.
Key Areas to Concentrate on in Each Room of Your Home
Remember, the goal is to work from top to bottom around the room, saving the floors for last. Once all walls and everything on them or in front of them are cleaned, then it’s time to sweep, mop, or vacuum to complete the room.
Also, I live in a 3 bedroom home, so that leaves an extra day, so I divide the kitchen into 2 days because there is so much more to do with cleaning the appliances, and emptying and cleaning cupboards. So, depending on how many rooms your house has, you can adjust the timeline.

Kitchen
- Wipe out all cabinets (inside and out).
- Wipe the inside and outside of drawers.
- Clean the microwave and oven (inside and out).
- Clean refrigerator and freezer (inside and out).
- Wipe down walls, baseboards, moldings, doors, windows, and lights.
- Sweep/mop the floor (don’t forget to pull appliances out to clean behind).

Living Room
- Dust all picture frames and pictures.
- Clean light fixtures, baseboards, moldings, doors, walls, windows, and blinds.
- Dust all surfaces (TV stands, coffee table, and end stands).
- Wash throw blankets and pillows.
- Vacuum carpet or mop floors (don’t forget underneath furniture).

Bathroom
- Wipe down all cabinets and drawers (inside and out).
- Clean mirrors, light fixtures, walls, moldings, baseboards, doors, windows, and blinds.
- Scrub the toilet (inside and outside).
- Clean the sink, bathtub, and/or shower.
- Wash bath mats, shower curtain and liner (or replace).
- Sweep and mop floors.

Bedrooms
- Dust the furniture (headboards, dressers, and nightstands).
- Wipe the walls, doors, baseboards, molding, windows, blinds, and light fixtures.
- Wash all bedding and pillows.
- Vacuum or mop floors (move furniture and vacuum or mop beneath).
And that’s it! Great job! Keep in mind, if you find at any time you start to become unmotivated or it feels overwhelming, take a break before you get back into it. When I start to feel this way, I will turn on some of my favorite music or listen to an audiobook or podcast to help push me to keep going.
The best part is that this type of seasonal deep clean only has to be done once or twice a year, as long as you are keeping up with your cleaning tasks. After all, it’s only one week, and after that, you will have a sparkling clean home that you can be proud of.
